Pioneer graduates of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Calabar (UNICAL), are protesting a year-long delay in receiving their certificates and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation. The graduates, who completed their studies in September 2024 and had their convocation in March 2025, claim the delay is frustrating and threatens their careers.

Team Hølå INFO MEDIA gather that the graduates were asked to pay N5,000 each for NYSC mobilisation in May 2025 but have neither been mobilised nor received their certificates. The university's Public Relations Officer, Effiong Eyo, stated that the graduates have been mobilised and are awaiting call-up letters from NYSC, adding that certificates will be signed once NYSC calls them.

The delay is attributed to a backlog of over 500,000 graduates awaiting NYSC mobilisation nationwide, caused by an increase in the NYSC monthly allowance and a limited quota for institutions.

The university management has assured that it is working to resolve the issue, while the NYSC has vowed to sanction institutions involved in fraudulent mobilisation practices.
