The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has raised an alarm over delays in salary payments to lecturers in Nigerian public universities. As of March 6, many lecturers are yet to receive their January salaries, while February salaries remain unpaid in most institutions.

ASUU President, Professor Christopher Piwuna, attributed the delay to the implementation of the new salary structure, tied to the 2026 national budget awaiting approval. He warned that if salaries are delayed beyond the third day of a new month, the union may consider strike action.

The union has communicated with relevant authorities to ensure compliance with the new agreement, commending vice-chancellors who made alternative arrangements for staff payments. ASUU urges patience from its members as it engages with the government for full implementation and regular salary payments.
