The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to abolish the common entrance examination for pupils transitioning from primary school to Junior Secondary School (JSS). This was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during a media briefing in Lagos.

According to the minister, the proposed reform will replace the examination with a Continuous Assessment (CA) system, designed to monitor and record pupils' academic performance from Primary One through the end of their primary education. The assessment record will be transferable, allowing it to follow pupils even when they change schools.

Dr. Alausa stated that the Continuous Assessment system will provide a comprehensive record of each pupil's academic progress, offering a more holistic evaluation than a single examination.

The minister also revealed plans to introduce a Learner Identification Number (LIN) for every child at the primary level, aiming to enhance tracking of students' academic journeys and improve retention and completion rates.

Additionally, the Federal Government is reviving the school feeding programme, transferring it to the Federal Ministry of Education for better oversight and increased enrolment in public schools.
