The Nigerian government has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative aimed at connecting all schools across the country to the internet. This bold move seeks to revolutionize digital learning and integrate technology into the nation's educational system.
The implementation plan for connecting schools nationwide to the internet involves several key components:👇🏻
☝🏻Project Funding: The World Bank has approved a $500 million concessional loan to support the initiative, with $460 million earmarked for equity financing and capitalization of a Project Company that will drive fibre rollout.
☝🏻Infrastructure Deployment: The plan includes deploying 90,000 kilometres of fibre-optic networks nationwide, with 90% designed to be climate-resilient.
☝🏻Targeted Connections: The project aims to connect 38,803 public schools and 16,872 health facilities by September 2030.
☝🏻Digital Literacy Training: 37,000 Nigerians are expected to receive digital literacy training, with 60% of beneficiaries being women.
☝🏻Implementation Timeline: Implementation activities are expected to begin in early 2026, with the project scheduled to be completed by September 2030.

☝🏻Expand Internet Connectivity: Connect all federal tertiary institutions to high-speed broadband via the Nigerian Research and Education Network (NG-REN) by 2026.
