The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is urging parents and qualified candidates to speak out against any form of admission bias or unfair practices in Nigerian tertiary institutions. According to JAMB's Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board is committed to ensuring fairness and transparency in the admission process through its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
JAMB emphasizes that a high UTME score does not guarantee admission, as universities also consider factors such as catchment areas, subject combinations, post-UTME scores, and institutional quotas. The board advises parents and candidates to utilize its ticketing system to report any concerns or allegations of admission bias, rather than resorting to social media or public protests.
In recent cases, JAMB has investigated allegations of admission denial and found them to be baseless, with candidates' scores and rankings not meeting the institutions' cut-off marks. The board warns against making unfounded allegations and encourages parents to understand the competitive nature of the admission process.
