President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).  

Prof. Aina succeeds Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose two-term tenure ends on July 31, 2026.

At 39, Prof. Aina is a distinguished academic and systems expert with over 15 years’ experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector reform. He will turn 40 in July 2026.

A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, he holds a http://B.Eng in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University, UK. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

Prof. Aina began his career with JAMB during his National Youth Service, gaining early experience in national admissions and data-driven processes. He has since advised federal and state governments on system design, digital transition, and institutional reform, and has consulted for NECO, NABTEB, and several State Ministries of Education on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.

He is a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). 

At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and will now become JAMB’s youngest registrar.

President Tinubu expects Prof. Aina to leverage his experience and expertise to advance JAMB’s operations and build on the achievements of his predecessor.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made following allegations of disruption of public peace and unlawful assembly during protests related to the strike. The Commissioner of Police stated that the command is committed to maintaining law and order and will ensure that all parties operate within the confines of the law.
