🤠 BOOM🔥🔥ASUU URGES FG NOT TO SCRAP UNIVERSITY COURSES SAYS UNEMPLOYMENT STEMS FROM MISMANAGEMENT.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a warning to the Federal Government against the proposed scrapping of certain university courses.
Alausa said the FG plans to phase out courses considered “irrelevant” to Nigeria’s economic future, and that the era of studying courses with limited real-world value was ending. He linked it to aligning university education with labour market demands.
ASUU’s position👇🏻
Zonal Coordinator, Comrade Namo Timothy, called the plan “bizarre”. He insisted every course in the university system has societal and economic relevance.
ASUU faulted the minister’s claim that mass production of graduates in social sciences and humanities is worsening unemployment and youth restiveness. The union argued unemployment is due to poor economic management, not the existence of those courses.
Key arguments from ASUU👇🏻
- All disciplines matter: Sciences, arts, social sciences, and technology each contribute uniquely to national development and innovation.
- Scrapping courses weakens diversity: It could reduce intellectual diversity and Nigeria’s capacity to produce well-rounded professionals.
- Fix the economy, not the curriculum: Joblessness stems from economic mismanagement, weak industrial growth, and inadequate investment.
- Focus on reforms, not removal: Government should prioritize job creation, research funding, and infrastructure instead of cutting academic offerings. 570a
What’s next
ASUU Bauchi Zone said they issued the warning to draw attention to issues threatening industrial harmony in the university system. No strike has been announced yet on this specific issue, but ASUU has other unresolved demands with FG.
