The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Benin Zone has raised alarm over the non-implementation of the 2025 agreement reached with the Federal Government, and has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike across seven state-owned universities in Edo, Delta, and Ondo states.

In a statement issued at the end of its Zonal Coordinating Committee meeting held in Benin City, the Union accused relevant authorities of failing to honour key provisions of the 2025 FGN/ASUU Memorandum.

The Zonal Coordinator of ASUU Benin Zone said the affected institutions include state universities across the three states where members have endured prolonged neglect of welfare, funding, and conditions of service.

“After exhausting all avenues for dialogue without concrete action from government, the Congress resolved that an indefinite strike becomes inevitable if our demands are not met within the shortest possible time,” the statement read in part.

The Union called on the governments of Edo, Delta, and Ondo states, as well as the Federal Government, to urgently intervene to prevent disruption of academic activities in the affected universities.

ASUU reiterated its commitment to protecting the interests of its members and to ensuring the survival of public university education in Nigeria.
