The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of several officials of the Academic Staff Union of Universities [ASUU], Imo State University [IMSU] Chapter, in connection with the ongoing strike action by the union.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made following allegations of disruption of public peace and unlawful assembly during protests related to the strike.

The Commissioner of Police stated that the command is committed to maintaining law and order and will ensure that all parties operate within the confines of the law.

ASUU-IMSU had embarked on strike to press home demands including payment of arrears, improved funding, and implementation of agreements with the state government.

The Police assured that those arrested will be investigated and charged to court if found culpable, while urging all parties to embrace dialogue to resolve the issues.
