The Council of Legal Education has released the full list of universities approved to offer Law programmes in Nigeria as of August 2026.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Council said a total of 122 universities— comprising federal, state, and private institutions — have met the minimum academic and infrastructural requirements to run Bachelor of Laws, LL.B, degrees in the country.

The Council warned prospective students and parents to be wary of unaccredited institutions parading themselves as providers of legal education.

“Only candidates admitted into universities on this approved list will be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School,” the statement read in part.

The release comes amid concerns over the proliferation of illegal law programmes and the need to sanitise legal education in Nigeria. Stakeholders have repeatedly called for strict enforcement to protect the integrity of the profession.

The Council urged the National Universities Commission, NUC, JAMB, and university authorities to ensure strict compliance and to sensitise the public against patronising unapproved institutions.
