The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, has dismissed allegations of financial misappropriation levelled against the agency.

In a statement issued, Mr. Sawyerr described the claims as misleading and unfounded. He reaffirmed that NELFUND operates with the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and due process in the disbursement of student loans.

According to him, the loan application and approval process is technology-driven and impartial, designed to ensure that eligible Nigerian students across all institutions have equal access without bias or interference.

“NELFUND remains fully committed to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda of expanding access to higher education. Every disbursement is tracked, verified, and published in line with our mandate of openness,” Mr. Sawyerr stated.

He urged the public, stakeholders, and media to disregard what he termed as baseless speculations, and encouraged students and institutions to continue engaging with the Fund through its official channels for accurate information.

NELFUND reiterated its dedication to supporting Nigerian students and ensuring that the student loan scheme delivers on its objective of reducing financial barriers to education.
