The Management of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has officially dismissed unfounded rumors circulating on social media regarding the induction status of 44 medical graduands. Contrary to trending reports on X (formerly Twitter), the University clarifies that there are no plans to merge these graduands with the 2025/2026 graduating class for their induction ceremony.

The Facts of the 2025 Induction👇🏻

Providing clarity on the situation, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Biodun Suleiman Alabi, detailed the academic outcomes of the recent final MBBS examinations. Of the 194 students who sat for the exams:
175 students passed outright.

19 students were required to take resit examinations (all of whom successfully passed in January 2026).

While the University sought to induct all successful candidates, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) enforced the institution’s current approved quota of 150 students. Consequently, the top 150 ranked candidates were inducted in November 2025, leaving 44 qualified graduands awaiting their formal entry into the profession.

Ongoing Engagement with MDCN👇🏻

Prof. Alabi noted that although the Federal Government has announced intentions to double admission quotas for medical students, this policy has yet to be formally implemented. However, the MDCN has provided assurances that the remaining 44 graduands (the 25 from the initial pass list and the 19 from the resit) will be inducted at a later date.

Commitment to Capacity Expansion👇🏻

In a proactive move to prevent future bottlenecks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), has directed the commencement of the reaccreditation process for the University’s Medicine and Surgery programme.

This process aims to:👇🏻

Invite the MDCN for formal reaccreditation.
Secure an increase in the current quota beyond the 150-student limit.
Expand the overall carrying capacity of the College of Health Sciences.

The University appeals to the affected students and their parents to remain patient and ignore speculative reports.

The management remains fully committed to ensuring that these 44 doctors, who have worked tirelessly to earn their degrees, are inducted into the medical profession without further unnecessary delay.
